Services

Fundamentally, I provide three services to students and parents:

First, I help students and parents figure out each student's ideal post-high school path. This includes:

  • Assessing each student's strengths, talents, interests, and expectations

  • Creating a list of possible majors and careers that best fit them

  • Determining which schools make the best fit for that student

Second, I help the student best prepare themselves for that path while still in high school. That means:

  • Assisting with academic work and course schedules

  • Helping the student understand the role of standardized testing

  • Reviewing extracurricular activities, community service, and summer opportunities to best present the student's strengths

Third, I assist in all aspects of the application process and give experienced advice on the best way a student can differentiate themselves from all of the other applicants out there.  That ranges from:

  • Organizing the application process for the student

  • Assisting in the development of the student's resume

  • Help determine who and how to ask for recommendations

  • Assisting in the choice of essay topics and advice concerning the student's writing

  • Prepare the student and family for college visits and interviews

The service costs $2,000 for 20 hours of the consultant’s time. Student and consultant meet regularly online from March of junior year until the student’s college applications are submitted in the fall of senior year. The consultant is happy to meet once each semester of high school prior to this to answer questions and relay information about colleges, high school courses, testing, summer plans and / or extracurriculars. Most meetings will be held virtually (using Zoom, an online video chat program); if desired, meetings can also be scheduled for the consultant’s home office in north Austin.
